Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics is currently seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher in Management and Leadership, for a fixed-term period of 3 years, starting on 1 September 2023 or thereafter upon agreement.
The position will be in the profiling area Emergent Work in the Digital Era (EWIDE).
The focus of the position is on understanding the ways in which digitalization gives rise to new forms of organizing. The EWIDE research group is an interdisciplinary research initiative that comprises three focus areas: A) Leadership and management, B) Communication practices, discourses and new competences, and C) Ethical AI and organisation. The applicant is expected to focus on Leadership and Management. Current research themes include artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision making in organizations, algorithmic control, datafication and organizational control, and digital technologies and employee wellbeing.
The postdoctoral researcher's tasks within the project will be to independently initiate and execute research within the leadership and management group. In addition, the post-doctoral researcher is expected to coordinate and streamline interdisciplinary collaborations across the focus area's within EWIDE. Activities include research and publishing, planning research projects and applying for competitive external research funding. The work tasks may include some teaching activities.
Qualifications we are looking for
We are looking for a candidate who possesses a diverse range of qualities and qualifications.
The preferred candidate should have extensive knowledge of theories and research pertaining to technologies and organizing. They should be well-versed in the latest advancements and trends in this field, demonstrating a deep understanding of the underlying concepts and principles. This knowledge will enable them to contribute to ongoing research projects and initiate new ones that align with the focus of the research group.
In addition to theoretical expertise, the ideal candidate should possess a strong background in quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies. They should be adept at designing and implementing research studies, analyzing data, and interpreting findings. Proficiency in statistical analysis is desirable.
Having a background in management and organization studies is essential for this position. The candidate should have a solid understanding of organizational dynamics, leadership, and strategic decision-making processes. This knowledge will enable them to contextualize their research within the broader organizational and managerial landscape.
A demonstrated ability to publish high-quality research is a key requirement for this position. The candidate should have a track record of publishing in reputable peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings. Their ability to contribute to the dissemination of research findings and engage in scholarly conversations will be highly valued.

Salary is based on level 5-6 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary will be between 3350-4400 EUR/month depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience. A trial period of six months will be used at the beginning of employment.
